Reading
We have started third grade spelling patterns and routines. We have started off with doing review work from second grade and freshening up our skills! Word Study will be sent home as weekly practice. You will learn more about this at Curriculum Night on Thursday 9/28. We have been building our stamina as we read (keeping our eyes glued to a book during reading time) and our goal is 30 minutes by the end of September as a class! We have been discussing how we know when we understand our reading, and one way is with a comprehension check! Writing The first unit we are starting with is Narrative Writing. We have been working on brainstorming small moment ideas and turning them into stories! We have listed small moments with a person, mapped small moments at a special place, and thought of story topics fresh from the summer! Math We have begun to explore the world of multiplication! The mathematicians in grade 3 have been looking at relations and patterns within skip counting multiples and story problems. We are getting ready to start looking at arrays! Social Studies This unit has been a big hit so far in 3G! We are working on geography and we started out with some refreshers of the eight cardinal directions and even danced the Compass Slide (ask your child to show you!) We are now gearing our focus to New England, and more specifically, Massachusetts. We are currently taking a "train tour" throughout some important places in Massachusetts and mapping our travels together!
